On November 6, 2026, JIMMY arrives in theaters nationwide, bringing to life a lesser-known chapter in the remarkable story of Hollywood icon Jimmy Stewart. And we're proud to see a familiar piece of American Optical history make an appearance.

In the film, actor KJ Apa wears the American Optical Hazemaster while portraying Stewart during his service as a military pilot in World War II. It's a fitting appearance for a style with deep roots in American aviation history.

The Story Behind the Star

Most people know Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey in It's a Wonderful Life, or from his unforgettable performances in The Philadelphia Story and countless other Hollywood classics.

But behind the familiar face was a decorated military pilot whose real-life story was every bit as compelling as his on-screen roles.

At the height of his Hollywood career, Stewart enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, trading movie sets for military aircraft. He went on to fly 20 combat missions over Europe during World War II, rising to the rank of colonel by the war's end. He continued his military service long after returning to Hollywood, eventually retiring from the Air Force Reserve as a brigadier general.

Directed by Aaron Burns, JIMMY follows Stewart from his Academy Award-winning success to the dangerous skies over Europe, exploring how his wartime experiences shaped the man who would return home to star in one of the most beloved films of all time.

While the Hazemaster itself came along after World War II, its AN-6531-inspired design makes its appearance in JIMMY a particularly meaningful nod to AO's military aviation legacy.
