The Original Pilot (originally named the FG-58) was issued to Gemini and Apollo astronauts as part of their survival kits. The standard issue specs were 52mm gold frames with Calobar green glass lenses and bayonet temples.
Pilots should consult their employer for lens recommendations. Often polarized lenses are not recommended as they can interfere with LCD control panels. Please email us at contact@aoeyewear.com if you need further information.
In preparation for relaunching aoeyewear.com in August of 2020 and beginning to offer new AO styles, we have been working hard to elevate the product offering in many ways. Nice frames!

I only use the frames to fit clear Rx lenses. I've been using Am Optical since 1967. I like them except the price has gotten quite high. I don't understand the need for 18k gold.

The Best of the Best. Worth Every Dollar.

First came in contact with my pair of AO flight line glasses was my first assignment out of Tech School. Andersen AFB SAC, Guam, M. I. I was assigned to Base Supply/Priority flight line delivery to Jet mechs and flight line and some times the Hot line. Guam known for its eternal sunshine or rain . They were the must have for glare and being the most comfortable sun glasses available. My last assignment was Plattsburgh AFB SAC, Plattsburgh, N. Y. Supply Redistribution & Marketing. I still have have them. Thanks for making 4 years great. Still get lots of comments on them. Some say that they are too expensive to which I reply, "Quality is never cheap, and you eyes will be forever grateful"
